A Tesla with a flat is a tire job, not a charge job. Tesla roadside is requested through the Tesla app. CDOT Safety Patrol changes tires on listed Front Range and I-70 Mountain Corridor segments. It will not charge the traction pack. For a flat that turns into a tow, or for an empty pack that needs a Level 2 boost, the third option is a referral line at (720) 738-6950.

What CDOT Safety Patrol actually does on a flat

CDOT runs the Safety Patrol through its Division of Maintenance and Operations. It is free on covered segments. The published menu is tires, jumps, fuel, debris, and minor mechanical help. Tires are on the list. A patrol driver can change a passenger tire on the shoulder where it is safe to do so.

Front Range segments that get the patrol: I-25 South from 120th Avenue to Arapahoe Road, I-70 East from Wadsworth to Airport Boulevard, and portions of US-6, C-470, and I-225. The I-70 Mountain Corridor is covered from Morrison to Vail.

Front Range weekday windows are 6:00 to 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. Weekend hours run 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain Corridor hours run 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday and during significant weather.

That is the operating window. A flat at 11 p.m. on I-25 South is not on the patrol’s clock. Wait on the shoulder with hazards on, or call the next option. CDOT’s Safety Patrol page and its breakdown page say nothing about electric vehicles. That is silence in state guidance, not a guess.

Tesla roadside is its own script

Tesla roadside starts in the Tesla app. Open the app, tap the service menu, and request roadside. Tesla routes the call through a third-party contractor network. Confirm what is included for your VIN and year in the app before you wait.

For a flat, the question is whether Tesla sends a tire change or a tow. Many flat calls end as a flatbed tow to a Tesla-approved tire shop or a service center, because Tesla’s policy favors moving the car to a controlled environment over a shoulder tire change. Out-of-range assistance may exist on some plans, and the policy terms change by year. Read the in-app copy for your VIN before you wait.

Tesla roadside also handles lockouts, dead 12-volt jump starts, and tow to a charger or service center. It does not bring a Level 2 source to your bumper. For an empty pack, that is a different kind of call. Read what Tesla roadside covers and skips for the full split.

A flat tire versus a dead pack or 12-volt

If the dash showed low range before the car stopped rolling, the pack is empty and the tire may be a second problem. If the car went dark on a cold morning and the tire is intact, the 12-volt is the issue. CDOT Safety Patrol and Tesla roadside both jump a 12-volt on a covered segment. Neither will refill a traction pack at zero.

Recurrent Auto studied more than 30,000 U.S. EVs in winter. At 32 degrees, EVs kept about 78 percent of max range. At 20 degrees, that drops to about 70 percent on average. Cold plus a heater running on the highway eats the buffer that looked comfortable at home. If the warning came on, treat the next stop as the charge, not as a chance to push the car one more exit.

A flat tire on the same morning as a cold soak can mask the real problem. The 12-volt is dead and the tire is just the tire you finally noticed. CDOT Safety Patrol will jump a 12-volt on a listed segment. So will the operators we refer. A jump helps when the car is dark and locked. It does not refill a pack sitting at zero.

When the flat is still a tow

A rear blowout on the highway is not a shoulder patch. The car needs a flatbed to a shop with Tesla-approved tires and torque. Tesla roadside sends that tow through its contractor network. Charge Pro DEN does not mount, balance, or torque Tesla tires. Operators we refer do not mount tires either. The job after the flat is a tow, then a tire shop.

CRS 42-4-1202 covers a disabled vehicle on a highway. You may not stop on the paved main-traveled part of a highway. The exception is a vehicle so disabled it cannot be moved off. Hazard lights must be on under CRS 42-4-230. A flat on the shoulder with hazards on is the lawful posture.

For an empty pack that needs more than a jump, see mobile EV charging in the Denver metro. For an empty pack that needs a tow to a stall, the same law applies.

E-470 and other toll loops

Stall on E-470 and you are on a cashless toll loop. Pull to the shoulder and dial *470 for E-470’s own roadside line. The published menu is flat tires, jump-starts, fluid top-offs, phone help, and debris removal. E-470 does not publish an EV charging service. Dial *CSP, which is *277, for State Patrol. The Northwest Parkway stretches north of US-36, and its roadside number was not verified for this page.

How to choose from a metro shoulder

Turn your hazards on and stay visible to traffic. Stay in the car if that is the safer choice. If you are on a listed CDOT Safety Patrol segment during published hours, that free tire change is on the table. If you are off the patrol list or off the clock, call Tesla roadside through the app.

For a flat on a road the patrol does not cover, Tesla’s contractor network tows the car to a shop. The operator quotes you before any cable or winch goes in. For a flat that turned into an empty pack, an independent operator brings a 240-volt Level 2 source to the bumper with a native NACS plug on the lead.

A Tesla roadside rescue referral routes the call through the operators we refer. We serve the Denver metro from the plains to the foothills. For the larger coverage comparison, read AAA vs mobile EV charging. For a Tesla 12-volt that will not wake, see Tesla 12-volt jump. Call (720) 738-6950 when you want that match. Treat it as a referral number, not a rolling promise.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tesla roadside change a flat tire?

It depends on the year and the policy. Many Tesla roadside calls end as a flatbed tow to a Tesla-approved tire shop. Open the Tesla app and read the roadside copy for your VIN before you wait on the shoulder.

Does CDOT Safety Patrol change Tesla tires?

CDOT Safety Patrol changes tires on listed Front Range and I-70 Mountain Corridor segments during published hours. Tires are on its published menu of free services. The patrol does not bring a charge to an empty pack.

Will a mobile EV charger fix a flat?

No. A mobile EV charger adds range to the traction pack. A flat tire is a tow to a tire shop. The two calls are separate, even when they happen on the same shoulder.
